Beginning in March, Wet Paint is a new and ongoing nomadic series of quarterly exhibitions dedicated to contemporary painting, currently based in Leeds.
Over the course of the year, the exhibitions are seeking to promote developing and established artists that are pushing the boundaries and capabilities (both physically and theoretically) of just what painting can do, and the overlapping relationship it has with other artistic mediums.
Through this ongoing dialogue we hope to challenge the public’s notion of just what ‘painting’ means in today’s contemporary society, and aim to show how it is in a continuous state of evolution and flux.
The programme of exhibitions will alternate between open submission shows, and planned exhibitions organised by select guest curators (who are based in other mediums or are from other artistic backgrounds aside from painting), in order to further the contingent relationship between painting and the wider art world.
Between exhibitions the blog will act as a go – to hub for updates on upcoming shows, but will also be home to artist/curator’s writings on painting and it’s relevance to art and culture, and will also feature selected image galleries of exhibiting artists and artists we think people should hear about.
